Every group is different. Please choose the questions that relate best to your group, and don’t feel like you have to get to every question.
Are you generally a content or discontent person? How does your discontentment play out in your life?
Consider this common statement - "If I just had this, I'd feel like my life would be complete"
What is your "this?"
Read Philippians 4:10-13
Read 1 Timothy 6:6–10
Here are 3 Common Assaults on Our Contentment
1. Temptation to Abundant Possession
2. Comparison to Others
3. Drive for Incessant Achievement
"If Godliness is Gain, then Greed is Loss."
Do you agree or disagree with this statement?
How have you seen this be true in yourself and others?
This "secret" (of contentment) when lived well can be attractive to the world around us.
Where have you had an opportunity to display contentment in a manner that made others curious about the power of the Holy Spirit at work in your life? Who is someone in your life that you need to share the hope of this “secret” with?
Which of these areas do you most need to find increased contentment? Why would you say that?
Physical Contentment
Social Contentment
Personal-Internal Contentment
Spiritual Contentment
Henri Nouwen writes in Life of the Beloved that every person is tempted to place their identity in three lies:
1. “I am what I have.”
2. “I am what I do.”
3. “I am what other people say or think of me.”
Which of the above lies are you the most prone to believe?
How does this passage help you fight against this temptation?
"True contentment is having exactly what you need, for exactly what you’re facing, exactly when you're facing it."
When is a time that you felt that God provided "exactly what you needed"?
You don’t need to love the bad in your life
You don’t need to hate the good in your life (but you probably should love some of them a little less)
You do need to remember the One above and behind it all in your life
What can you do to better remember God in your times of discontentment this week?
