Every group is different. Please choose the questions that relate best to your group, and don’t feel like you have to get to every question.

Big Idea:

“The message of the Bible about anxiety is not ‘You don’t have anything to worry about,’ but rather, ‘you don’t have to carry all that you carry as often as you carry it.’”

“While there are physiological, emotional, and circumstantial causes for anxiety, it is at its core, a deeply spiritual issue.”

To what extent do you agree with this and why?

Read Philippians 4:4-8

Paul doesn’t tell us to rejoice in our worry. What does he tell us to rejoice in instead? Why is this important?

Point #1 from this passage: Celebrate what’s true about God.

What do verses four and five teach us about God? What challenges you and inspires you about this?

Point #2 from this passage: Ask him for help.

What do we learn about prayer from verses six and seven?

Robert taught that there is value in being specific in our requests.

  • Maybe getting specific with God isn’t for His benefit, but for yours.

  • The more you pray specifically, the more God can ease your anxiety personally.

  • Specific prayer for anxiety involves other people in the answer. (2 Timothy 4:11)

Point #3 from this passage: List what you are grateful for.

We looked at some Greek words that brought us to the following realizations:

  • Grace is what we receive from God the Father.

  • Joy is what we experience from the Holy Spirit.

  • Gratitude for what we have been given through Jesus Christ is what we give back to Him.

Read Psalm 105:3

What does rejoicing in the Lord look like to you? Share a time when you or someone you know rejoiced in the Lord in the midst of trials.

Point #4 from this passage: Meditate

What does the word meditate first conjure up in your mind?

What do Philippians 4:8, Romans 12:2, and Psalm 1:1-3 teach us about meditation and how it can transform us?

This week’s memory verse is Proverbs 15:1. Spend time with your family and group learning it together.
