Sermon Guide

Have you ever heard any of these sentiments?

  • “I’m done with church.”

  • “I don’t really need to go.”

  • “My relationship with God is personal.”

  • “I don’t trust things that are organized or institutional.”

Which one of these stands out to you? Have you ever felt any of these personally? Which ones?

Read 1 Corinthians 1:1-9.

What are some initial observations you have about this passage?

What were some of Robert’s points that stuck out to you from this week’s sermon?

What does this passage teach us about God’s character?

What does it say about God's actions? (i.e. what He has done?)

Paul says God “sanctified” (v.2) and “called” (v.2 & v.8) the Corinthians.

What do these words mean? What role do these words play in our lives?

We know from our study that the church at Corinth had many problems and issues, which Paul doesn’t ignore. Yet, Paul still opens the letter thanking God for them (v4).

How can we cultivate gratefulness to God for our church while still being aware of the problems?

We see Paul saying “God is faithful” (v9).

How have you seen God be faithful?

Why can you say this?

As you close in prayer, ask God to grant you love for the people of our church, even with all their imperfections.
