Every group is different. Please choose the questions that relate best to your group, and don’t feel like you have to get to every question.

Read Ruth 1:6-18

  • Why is Naomi returning to Judah?

  • What words would you use to describe Ruth’s choice to cling to Naomi, even though she has nothing to offer her daughter-in-law in return? (see verses 16 and 17).

  • What are the risks Ruth is taking in accompanying Naomi to Judah?

Read Ruth 2:1-13

  • Who is Boaz, and what has he heard about Ruth?

  • What is Boaz’s response to what he has learned?

Read Ruth 4:13-17

  • Who is Obed?

  • Ruth was from Moab, and Boaz was from Israel: two tribes that had been separated by a thousand years-plus of conflict. How does the one act found in this passage reflect love and transformation?

  • In this message, it was said that “clinging to” involves “showing up for” and “standing with” someone. In what ways does a fractured and divided world need this word?

Four truths were pointed out from this story in Ruth:

  1. A divided world needs love and love is risky.

  2. As we take meaningful risks in the name of love, we can find ourselves mysteriously cared for.

  3. While we are living out our story, there is a bigger story.

  4. God uses the least likely to be instruments of redemption.

Discuss these four truths. How have you seen these fleshed out in life? In your life?
