How do you define happiness?
Do you think most people today are truly happy? Why or why not?
Do you consider yourself a happy person? If so, what is the source of your happiness?
Engage:
Read Philippians Chapter 1.
You’ll miss out on happiness if you’re waiting for something to happen before you are happy. That is, if you wait to get what you want before you’re happy, you’ll never be truly happy. Do you agree with that? Have you seen this to be true?
What do you think the difference is between momentary happiness and enduring happiness? How do you think we can have enduring happiness even in bad circumstances?
Happiness is not something we seek as an end in itself. If we seek happiness as our goal, we’ll never find it. The object of our happiness must be something outside of ourselves and outside of our circumstances. What do you think of that?
Why is it hard not to compare yourself and your happiness to others? Do you ever struggle with this?
Isolation will kill happiness. We thrive in community and happiness flourishes when we’re walking with others. Do you agree?

Spend some time this week making a list of people that you can encourage and love. How do you think loving others will affect your own happiness?
Privately, think about whether you lean more toward pessimism or optimism. How would being more optimistic help your happiness? How can the Lord help you with this in the coming week?
This week’s memory verse is Isaiah 26:3. Spend time with your family and group learning it together.
