Serve Day 2022

At Fondren Church, we teach that we have been blessed to be a blessing.

We also value our location in the city of Jackson, and often say we are “In the City, for the City!” Therefore, we would love to join us on November 16th. This year we have several sites lined up for what we believe will be our most impactful serve day yet! We will meet at the gym at 8 AM for a quick breakfast and prayer and then head to our sites and serve until noon.

Center for Pregnancy Choices

This Christmas CPC Metro is hosting an event they call Baby's First Christmas Party. As a part of this, they are looking to put together 25 self-care bags for the Moms. Items for these bags include body/hand lotion, nail polish, facial mask, small candles, fuzzy socks, bath bombs, or other items similar to these. These items would need to be purchased and placed in a Christmas bag with tissue paper. This team will procure these items and put the gift bags together.

Fondren Renaissance Foundation

FRF’s work is focused on preserving, revitalizing, and empowering people, organizations and neighborhoods for economic growth, stability and quality of life in Fondren. We have partnered with them on many projects and highly value their work in our neighborhood. For this Serve Day, they have asked us to work cleaning up the sidewalks and landscaping strips along State Street. We will start right outside our back gate on state street and work our way north towards Meadowbrook.

Location: State Street in Fondren

Good Samaritan Center

The Good Samaritan Center is a social services organization that has been assisting families in crisis for over 40 years. The Saturday before Thanksgiving every year Good Sam puts on a race in our neighborhood as a fundraiser. The funds raised from this year’s 12k’s for the Holidays help support their Christmas Assistance program. This year, Good Sam plans to assist children and families as always with toys and holiday food baskets. They have asked us for volunteers to assist with the race. This site will start and be done earlier than our other sites.

John & Vera Mae Perkins Foundation

The John and Vera Mae Perkins Foundation for Justice, Reconciliation & Community Development (JVMPF) is a non-profit organization that teaches and promotes the principles of Christian Community development and racial reconciliation. They have asked if we could tackle multiple construction projects including painting, woodwork, french drain installation, carpet removal and laminate flooring installation, gutter installation, and some electrical work. Please if you have any experience in these areas sign up and let Van (van.hardin@fondrenchurch.com) know.

Reclaimed

Reclaimed has its office here at Fondren Church. In fact this past year they have renovated some space on our second floor. That being said, they have some furniture and other items that did not make their way into the new space. They have asked if we could assist them during this Serve Day by going through some of their stuff. This team will sort, move, and maybe even take a load or two to goodwill.

Sunnybrook

Sunnybrook serves children who have aged out of the foster system. They help this vulnerable population to transition into adulthood in a myriad of ways. Their property is surrounded by a black iron gate that needs cleaning and painting. They have also asked us to paint some furniture and clean up the grounds.

The Resource Center @ Trace Ridge

They exist to illustrate the love of Jesus by providing food, clothing, and beds to Mississippi families both in the foster care system and experiencing a crisis. We are going to work with them by sorting, organizing, and restocking donations of clothing and household items. The Resource Center will also be open that day, so there may even be a chance to interact with the people they serve.
